This educational initiative is designed to raise awareness amongst gastroenterologists of guidelines
surrounding patients with opioid-induced constipation (OIC). Note: A third module will be released soon.
Videos:
-
Overview of the guideline
(approx. 15-20 minutes)
This video will serve as an educational tool and will walk through the details of the AGA OIC Guideline.
-
How to have a conversation with your patient about constipation and opioids
(approx. 15-20 minutes)
This video serves to promote effective communication between patients using opioid therapy and their
physician. Optimal treatment of OIC is dependent on a physician’s ability to confidently and
compassionately discuss this sensitive issue with their patients. Often, patients will not initiate the
conversation voluntarily and modeling effective communication will expedite the treatment process.
Education that demonstrates effective patient counseling on OIC and provides robust examples of how the
conversation should flow is an invaluable treatment tool.
